Small recycling systems
That could be built most anywhereThese small systems could be built either indoors or out. Catfish, carp, and tilapia system are better indoors. A garage or small greenhouse would be good. And would also provide a good site for mounting solar panels if needed.
The systems we will describe require a floor space of 75 to 100 sq. Ft. And operates with a continuous pumping at a rate of 18.5 gal/minute (or about 1110 gal./hr ) The filter is of the submerged gravel type. The sedimentation basin is suitable for keeping all species, and we will describe how to adapt it to the needs of each later.
We sugest the use of three identical circular tanks for keeping the fish, each being about 40 inches in diameter 30 inches deep containing water to a depth of 20 inches. The total water volume of the tanks about 317 gallons. The Filter tank and the sedimentation basen are the same size about 6.5 feet long by 3.25 feet wide and 1.5 feet deep containing about 265 gal. of water. A header tank about 30 inches long by 20 inches wide and 30 inches deep containing about 53 gal. Together with a 159 wat submersible pump delivering approximately 18.5 gal/minute (or about 1110 gal./hr ) to a head of about 10 feet and some solar panels competes the system. (Solar panels and header tank are optional). All plumbing in the system should be plastic pipe and fittings 3/4" to 2" in diameter.
The next system is the same as this one with out the solar.
